Fuel Oil is a liquid petroleum product refined from crude oil. Kerosene also comes from crude oil but is obtained by distilling petroleum at a high temperature.

Many people ask which product they should use to heat their home. As a rule of thumb, if you have an indoor tank in your basement that is protected from the elements use fuel oil. If you have a fuel tank that is exposed to cold, wind and is outside unprotected use kerosene as kerosene does not gel when the temperature gets cold.
