Blueox Energy can be traced back to the 1940s, when George Paye of Oxford NY started a successful coal business. As the transition from coal to fuel progressed, Ken Thompson purchased the coal business and renamed it Thompson Fuel Service which supplied the local region with coal, fuel oil, and kerosene throughout the 1950s and the 1960s.
In 1965, David L Emerson (the owner of Emerson Company Heating, Plumbing & Hardware) purchased Thompson Fuel. Emerson was a man of strong business character and family values, and his beliefs were embedded into the foundation that continue to serve Blueox today.
In 1970, Emerson’s son (David B. Emerson) purchased a portion of Thompson Fuel. In 1979, the father and son owners were joined by Neil Bartle who also bought into the company.
The 1980s were a big decade for our company!
Thompson Fuel continued to expand into 3 new locations in: Binghamton NY, Hamilton NY, and Norwich NY. With this growth, Thompson Fuel also expanded its’ bulk transportation fleet. This expansion also carried into the convenience store industry with the purchase of Lounsberry Truck Stop on Rte 17 in Nichols NY.
In 1984, Thompson Fuel became Blueox Corporation. Three years later, Blueox Corporation purchased Martin Supply Company of Oxford NY and officially entered the propane gas business.
The growth didn’t stop there! Throughout the 1990s, Blueox Corporation enjoyed continuous growth and change with the opening of more convenience stores and a consistent focus on the petroleum industry. In 1991, Blueox purchased Andrews & Aikens Plumbing & Heating. In 1994, David B. Emerson retired as President of Blueox Corporation, handing the reins over to Neil Bartle.
With Neil at the helm, all fuel operations and fleet dispatch that were once handled at each fuel location were streamlined into one office. Under Neil’s guidance, in 1997, Blueox became a full scale propane gas supplier with the purchase of H & H Fuels in Greene, NY.
Today, Blueox continues to grow by offering many products & services to an ever expanding market in the Southern Tier region and Central New York. Our goal today is no different from the goals David L. Emerson instilled in the 1960′s; strong business character and putting customers first.
In the fall of 2012, David Martin was named COO of Blueox Energy after 30 years of dedicated service to our company. He has been instrumental in upholding the values that Blueox was founded on over 50 years ago. David’s mission is to exceed our customer’s expectations every day, by showing them just how Blueox Energy is a different kind of fuel company. Blueox has added an energy audit and insulation division and works every day to find new ways to help our customers make energy affordable.
